Art in Second Life

Being able of "living" and expressing the self in a world where we can either follow or break the laws of physics is a power never experienced before by the flesh and bones man. Flying, walking under the water without drowning, painting the sky with any color, having any imagined body form and aspect (including non-human forms), being able of dancing any kind of rhythm with a simple click, among other things, are possible and usual things in Second Life.

3D platforms and avatars have been used already for more than one decade in ganes and for several years on the Web. However, althoug Multi-User Virtual Environments (MUVE) on the Web -- like Second Life and Active Worlds -- are not a real novelty, Second Life (SL) has become a fever, being considered by many as the best digital life on the Web now. Emergent possibilities and complexities make the SL a new platform for artistic experimentations and expressions. The presentation will talk about the context of art in SL, showing art works developed by several artists and existent experimentation spaces.
